Council of Past Presidents
Jim Peiffer
Manager, Development Services
Maryland Department of Transportation
Mr. Peiffer is a Manager of Development Services in the Maryland Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Office of Real Estate. As Manager, he promotes the development potential of MDOT real estate associated with its transit operations. He is primarily responsible for the property management of the State's transit-related real estate and the joint development of MDOT's property with the private sector. MDOT actively seeks to encourage Transit Oriented Development (TOD) as a strategy to build transit ridership, support the revitalization of communities, and generate new revenue to offset transit operating and capital expenses. Maryland currently has approximately 20 TOD projects in progress including $billion developments at State Center and Owings Mills. State Center was one of only seven projects worldwide to win the Charter Award for exemplary planning from the Congress for New Urbanism.
Mr. Peiffer has worked at MDOT since 1996 and has over 25 years of public and private development experience. Prior to joining MDOT, he served in management positions for business development, foreign direct investment, business retention and small business assistance, and market research over a 16-year career with the State of Maryland's Economic Development program. He also provided economic consulting services to several County development programs. Mr. Peiffer is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA.
