MARYLAND MILITARY INSTALLATION
COUNCIL MEETING FEATURES BRAC-AFFECTED ORGANIZATIONS
Major Department of Defense agencies will
discuss move to Maryland
Baltimore, Md. (June 4, 2008) – Representatives
of the military organizations relocating to Maryland
due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) will update
the Maryland Military Installation Council on progress
of the moves. The meeting will take place June 9, from
7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the Maryland Department
of Housing & Community Development, 100 Community
Place, Crownsville, Md. Senator Ben Cardin and Congressman
John Sarbanes are scheduled to attend.
The agenda features briefings by officials of the major
Department of Defense organizations moving to Maryland,
including Command, Control, Communications, Computers,
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR)
and U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC), moving
to Aberdeen Proving Ground; Defense Information Systems
Agency (DISA), Defense Media Activities (DMA) and Adjudication
and Office of Hearing and Appeals, relocating to Fort
Meade; and Air National Guard and Air Force District
of Washington (AFDW), coming to Andrews Air Force Base.
The agenda also includes a presentation by Todd Morgan,
president of the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, on
encroachment around the State’s military installations.
Panel discussions will outline expansion plans, challenges
and accomplishments of defense contractors such as Booz
Allen Hamilton, CSC, MITRE, L3 Communications, Battelle,
and SAIC.
Authorized by the Maryland General Assembly and formed
in 2003, the Maryland Military Installation Council’s
mission is to identify the public infrastructure and
community support necessary for the development and
expansion of the State's military installations, and
the potential impact on local communities. MMIC also
provides support to the BRAC Subcabinet.
