Sadowski Named Interim President
and CEO of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore
BALTIMORE, MD (7/18/08) --- The Board of Directors
of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore (EAGB)
announced today that J. Thomas “Tom” Sadowski
has been named Interim President and CEO of the Alliance.
Sadowski, who has served as Executive Vice President
of the Alliance since January 2006, will oversee direction
of the private economic development marketing organization.
The Alliance’s former President and Chief Executive
Officer, Christian Johansson, stepped down from that
post earlier this month.
The Alliance announced last month that Johansson planned
to step down in July in order to start a private equity
firm focused on minority businesses.
Sadowski, formerly the Executive Director of Economic
Development for Harford County, has led the Alliance’s
efforts with respect to the 2005 Base Realignment and
Closure (BRAC) initiative which is expected to bring
thousands of new jobs to Maryland. To date, Sadowski
has coordinated marketing efforts reaching more than
7,500 federal employees, 3,500 defense contractors,
and 60 major business, higher education, and non-profit
organizations, all of which will be impacted by BRAC.
“Tom has done outstanding work on the Alliance’s
BRAC initiative,” said Alliance Chair Laura Gamble,
President, Bank of America Maryland. “His extensive
experience and his thorough understanding of both the
organization and this region’s economic development
community make Tom the obvious choice to continue our
efforts to build the Alliance as a valued and vital
player in enhancing economic development in Greater
Baltimore.”
Sadowski recently was elected President of the Maryland
Economic Development Association (MEDA), the statewide
association of economic development professionals.
He also currently chairs Harford County’s BRAC
Planning Advisory Commission and is active on numerous
public and private sector boards. While serving as Executive
Director of Harford County Economic Development, Sadowski
managed the county’s efforts to secure the 2005
BRAC win. He also contributed to four bond rating upgrades
in the county, while helping to lead the effort to develop
Harford’s technology base and redevelop the U.S.
Route 40 Corridor.
Prior to Harford County, Sadowski served as business
development director in Baltimore County, handling projects
for Bank of America, BD Diagnostics, and T. Rowe Price,
among others. In 2001, he was recognized by the Baltimore
Business Journal as one of the Region’s Top 40
Business Leaders Under 40.
Gamble indicated that the Alliance Board has formed
a committee to search for a permanent replacement for
Johansson. Sadowski is a candidate for the position.
