Jimmy Rhee Will Welcome Attendees to 2017 MEDA Summer Conference

Our 2017 Summer Conference is packed with powerhouse leaders who play a major role in our state’s vibrancy. One of these leaders is Jimmy Rhee, the secretary of the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority and Women’s Business Affairs. As he presents the opening remarks for the 2017 MEDA Summer Conference, his words will set the tone for the conversations centered on transforming communities into ecosystems that attract and support small businesses and entrepreneurs. It is particularly timely that Mr. Rhee joins us as his office recently adopted a name change. The office was previously called the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs but is now referred to as the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority and Women’s Business Affairs. The name change clarifies to the public that his office works exclusively with small businesses and helps connect them to various resources.

Mr. Rhee coordinates compliance activities with 70 participating procurement agencies while simultaneously working with Maryland’s business community to expand opportunities for small, minority- and women-owned firms seeking to perform as prime contractors and/or subcontractors on state-funded procurements. With over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience in enterprise creation, growth and change management, Mr. Rhee has an extensive record of directing turn-around situations ranging from manufacturing to software companies. He has mentored various small business entities, helping them secure capital and illuminate their competitive edge. Mr. Rhee is a member of this year’s Leadership Maryland class.
