FY2020 Video Lottery Terminal Grant Recipients Announced
ELKTON, MD – Cecil County Executive Dr. Alan McCarthy is pleased to announce the recipients of the competitive FY2020 Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) Local Community grants. The purpose of the VLT Local Community Grant Program is to provide local nonprofit and state, county, and municipal government agencies funding to address the needs of the community in the priority areas noted in Cecil County’s Strategic Plan: Economic Development, Education, Infrastructure, and Safe, Health and Active Communities.
The VLT Grant Review Committee reviewed 66 grant applications, with requested funds totaling more than $1.17M. Fifty (50) awards were approved that will provide a total of $350,000 to local community projects or programs.
“Awarding the VLT grants is always a difficult process because of the many projects in our community that deserve serious consideration,” stated County Executive McCarthy. “I thank the VLT Grant Review Committee for the fair and equitable grant award recommendations. I look forward to hearing about and observing the many positive outcomes supported by these grants.
The number of applicants continues to grow each year and the funds requested far exceed the available dollars. The Review Committee applies a consistent process to fairly and consistently evaluate applications. In an effort to assist local organizations to submit successful proposals, the Department of Community Services (DCS) hosted an informational meeting on May 1, 2019 for applicants interested in learning more about the VLT grant process.
DCS Director David Trolio stated, “Each year the selection process becomes increasingly more difficult due to both the number of applicants and the quality of proposals submitted. This year’s process proved especially challenging and I applaud both the applicants for their creative and inspired proposals as well as the review team for their dedicated and unbiased commitment to the evaluation process.”
