MARYLAND PROMOTES ITS ADVANTAGES TO INTERNATIONAL INVESTORS AT SELECTUSA SUMMIT
BALTIMORE, MD (June 28, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Commerce this week is exhibiting at the 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit, the top event in the country dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI). Maryland Commerce is hosting a 200 square-foot booth (#1100), where it will market the state to more than 1,200 business investors from approximately 80 international markets. Held in National Harbor, Md., the annual summit is led by the U.S. Department of Commerce and has impacted nearly $58 billion in new investment projects across the country, supporting more than 47,000 jobs nationwide.
Maryland Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade is participating in several events during the summit, including hosting industry-specific tours for foreign investors interested in learning about Maryland; taking part in a panel about soft landing programs; and attending high-level bilateral events with partner countries. The state also hosted a reception with Governor Larry Hogan and dozens of investors and business leaders on Monday, promoting Maryland and its jurisdictions as a world-class destination for foreign investment. Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation served as a co-host for the event.
“SelectUSA provides us with an excellent opportunity to show off Maryland’s advantages to foreign investors from around the world,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “By establishing these new relationships and growing the list of international companies doing business in Maryland, we will continue adding new jobs and ensure our state stays open for business.”
Attending SelectUSA also gives Maryland Commerce the opportunity to promote the Maryland Global Gateway, a newly announced initiative that builds on the state’s Soft Landing Program. The recent $2 million investment will help match international prospects with local incubators throughout the state while growing Maryland’s hub of international companies. This innovative program was announced during last year’s summit, in which Maryland Commerce participated as a SelectUSA Tech program sponsor.
Maryland’s Office of International Investment and Trade works to stimulate foreign direct investment in the state, offers export assistance, and coordinates international trade and investment missions and trade show opportunities for Maryland companies. The state also has 18 foreign trade offices across the globe. For more information on Maryland’s assets for global business, visit open.maryland.gov/global.
