Economic Development Week In Maryland 2023
By: Pam Ruff, MEDA Executive Director
On October 23 – 27, 2023, MEDA celebrated Economic Development Week in Maryland, a week designed to increase awareness of economic development’s contribution to the state’s business climate, job retention and growth, the tax base, and the overall quality of life in Maryland.
During the week-long celebrations, Governor Wes Moore’s statewide proclamation was sealed and delivered by Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson during the MEDA Fall Conference (Innovations in Manufacturing) in Taneytown, located in Carroll County, on October 25. Maryland boasts a thriving manufacturing industry that ranges from value-added agricultural to advanced biopharmaceutical manufacturing; the Fall Conference was a wonderful opportunity for economic developers to share insights on the innovations in Maryland’s manufacturing industry.
MEDA is an organization of 513 members who represent every region of the State. The public and private sector economic and community development leaders who participated during the week of recognition are duly recorded on the MEDA website and include business appreciation visits, targeted training sessions, seminars, networking events, blogs, and even one or two TV appearances. The activities highlighted represent just a glimpse of the daily efforts undertaken by Maryland’s committed Economic and Community Development professionals.
Throughout the week I have been reminded on my daily Facebook memories of all the Economic Development Week recognitions MEDA has documented over the past 12 years and now we have year 13 to add to the mix. This consistent recognition of annual job creation and retention efforts stands as a powerful testament to the significance and success of economic and community development in the State of Maryland.
On behalf of MEDA, we extend our sincere appreciation to every economic and community development professional in the State of Maryland for their ongoing dedication to Transforming lives by Creating Opportunities, Inspiring Innovation, and Enriching Communities. As Executive Director of MEDA, I am extremely proud to be working with all of you.
We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to this year’s sponsors, Comcast and Rockville Economic Development, Inc., for their invaluable support of Economic Development Week in Maryland.
There is much more to come in the future, and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
