MEDA Economic Development Week to Feature Events Throughout Maryland
The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) announces its fourth annual Economic Development Week. Being held from Sunday, October 26, through Friday, October 31, Economic Development Week spotlights the initiatives improving business retention, job growth and the overall quality of life for Maryland’s citizens.
“Maryland’s economic development professionals help transform lives and catalyze local economies,” said MEDA President Lawrence F. Twele, CEcD. “They create opportunities, inspire innovation and enrich our communities in powerful ways. Economic Development Week highlights these efforts and encourages collaboration among our members.”
Economic Development Week will include proclamations issued by local and state officials to recognize significant projects that make Maryland a wonderful place to live, work and play. So far, Allegany, Baltimore, Dorchester, Garrett, Queen Anne’s and Washington counties and the State of Maryland all have proclaimed October 26 through 31 as Economic Development Week.
Throughout the week, professionals in Maryland’s public and private sectors will be hosting various events across the state to celebrate economic development. “Our members have unique ways of showcasing their initiatives,” said Pam Ruff, executive director of MEDA. “They work every day of the year on improving Maryland’s economy, and Economic Development Week is an opportunity for them to draw more attention to their hard work.”
The MEDA Fall Conference & Showcase will kick off the week’s festivities on October 26 and 27 at Rocky Gap in Cumberland, Maryland. Highlighting Maryland’s momentum as a manufacturing powerhouse, the event begins at 1 p.m. October 26 with the Showcase featuring manufacturing-industry exhibitors, Maryland-made products, food and networking. The MEDA Fall Conference will deepen the dialogue among industry professionals on October 27 as attendees explore Maryland’s manufacturing sectors on the move and hear from pacesetters throughout the industry who will share game-changing opportunities within the global economy.
Other Economic Development Week events will include countywide business appreciation visits, tours of development projects, conferences on workforce and business outreach and after-hours business socials.
