Community Revitalization Project Authors Check In With Marylanders
Maryland is investing in cities and towns to improve quality of life and economic vitality in communities and provide the environmental benefits of reinvesting in buildings and infrastructure.
To foster more and better quality infill, redevelopment & revitalization, the Sustainable Growth Commission is reviewing relevant state and federal programs and, analyzing selected Maryland communities to gain insight into their progress toward creating healthy, vibrant communities with a range of housing, employment and transportation options.
On July 21, the commission released its preliminary draft recommendations for public review and comment. Commission members would like to hear from anyone interested in the future of Maryland communities during a 30-day review period ending August 20. Read the press release.
The report will also include profiles delving into community challenges, successes, strategies and lessons learned as well as best practices and a searchable online database of state funding programs.
The Infill, Redevelopment & Revitalization initiative is in response to a request from Governor O’Malley and Lieutenant Governor Brown and will result in recommendations for investment, policies and programs. View the project work plan.
Focusing on in-depth case studies of select Maryland communities will help identify what works in a community’s efforts to revitalize, redevelop, or attract infill development, and what impediments have slowed progress.
The project also features the Infill, Redevelopment & Revitalization Tool Box, which compiles state technical, financial, regulatory and other assistance that can help support infill, redevelopment & revitalization as well as some federal programs.
