TEDCO Invests in Smeeple
Rural Maryland business aims to connect individuals to solve a variety of problems
COLUMBIA, Md., (November 5, 2024) — TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, has announced a recent $25,000 in Smeeple, a company connecting users with subject matter experts. The investment was made through TEDCO’s Pre-Seed Rural Business Innovation Initiative (RBII) Fund, which is designed to support technology commercialization and provide technical and business assistance to small and early-stage companies in rural Maryland.
“Our goal is to connect people with top athletes and experts who want to give advice, help, and mentorship,” says Smeeple founder and CEO, Calvin Holston. “TEDCO, through this investment and collaboration with our team, has continued to guide us along the path to further growth.”
Based in California, Md., Smeeple focuses on creating connections for users seeking tailored, accessible advice in a wide range of situations. Through its software, users can connect through 1:1 video calls with Division 1 athletes to HVAC technicians. Whether it’s fixing a leaky faucet or improving health and fitness, Smeeple aims to offer help and mentorship for any situation.
“Smeeple’s vision is clear and can be beneficial to users worldwide,” said Justin Ferguson, program manager for Venture Development. “Our goal, through the RBII program, is to guide businesses located in rural Maryland, such as Smeeple, toward growth and success.”
