Governor Moore’s Executive Orders Will Boost Maryland Technology, Life Sciences & Innovation
Maryland Tech Council Commends Orders that Support “Heart of Maryland’s Innovation Economy”
The Maryland Tech Council commends Governor Wes Moore for issuing an executive order Thursday designed to boost the state’s life sciences, technology, aerospace and defense industries, and emerging sectors of our innovation ecosystem.
Governor Moore’s Executive Order calls for devoting government resources to “priority industries,” including life sciences, information technology, aerospace and defense, and emerging sectors of computational biology, quantum technology, and positioning, navigation and timing.
“We commend Governor Moore for prioritizing Maryland’s technology, life sciences, aerospace and defense sectors—pillars of our state’s economy and innovation ecosystem,” said Kelly Schulz, Chief Executive Officer of the Maryland Tech Council. “Maryland’s technology, life sciences, and aerospace and defense industries alone comprise more than 10,000 companies, nearly 400,000 workers, and billions of dollars of annual economic activity in the state. From life-saving medical breakthroughs to cybersecurity and uncrewed flight systems, these industries are the beating heart of Maryland’s innovation economy. As Maryland’s computational biology and quantum technology sectors continue to grow, they will not only change our innovation landscape – they will fundamentally change how the world solves complex problems.”
“Governor Moore’s actions today send a clear message that Maryland will foster the conditions for these industries to thrive – not just for industry’s sake, but for every Marylander who benefits from the jobs and innovations they make possible,” Schulz continued. “We look forward to working with the Moore Administration and General Assembly to ensure Maryland remains a global innovation leader.”
