Great Places Win: Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Celebrates $200,000 in Funding to Maryland Technology Center
Charles County project third in Great Places Win event series touting Fiscal Year 2025 State Revitalization Program projects
INDIAN HEAD, MD (April 14, 2025) – Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day today joined officials from the Charles County Military Alliance Council, the United States Bomb Technician Association (USBTA), Charles County and the Town of Indian Head to celebrate $200,000 in State Revitalization Program funding for the development of the Maryland Technology Center. The event was the third in a series of five events across the state touting the department’s historic $129.5 million in Fiscal Year 2025 State Revitalization Program awards.
“The Maryland Technology Center is a force for economic rejuvenation, bringing technology development, workforce training and cutting-edge research to Indian Head and all of Southern Maryland,” said Secretary Day. “This project is a leading example of what can be borne out of strong collaboration between the state, local government, and nonprofit partners. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is proud to support the Maryland Technology Center and its strong impact on the region.”
The Maryland Technology Center contains training space and nearly 5,000 square feet of lab space for research, development testing and evaluation. The 30,000-square-foot facility, which was formerly a grocery store and CVS Pharmacy, serves as USBTA’s headquarters and houses several other businesses and contractors.
A partnership between the Charles County Military Alliance Council and the United States Bomb Technician Association, the project was awarded $200,000 in Fiscal Year 2025 Community Legacy funds through the department. Funds will support the final phase of construction, and join past Department investment in Charles County in the nearby Velocity Center and Oasis Fresh Food Market. The Maryland Technology Center is expected to have a significant economic impact on the community through job training and workforce development and spur further public and private investment in the Town of Indian Head. The completion of the space has attracted nine new industry partners and dozens of jobs to Charles County.
“We are grateful for [Maryland]’s Department of Housing and Community Development and their commitment and support for this project – which has become one more great thing for not only the revitalization of Indian Head, but for Charles County, the entire Western Charles Technology Corridor, and the ecosystem currently growing around and in support of the base at Indian Head,” said Charles County Military Alliance Council Chair Steve Mitchell.
“The USBTA is honored and humbled on the incredible support from DHCD,” said United States Bomb Technician Association CEO Sean Dennis. “The Maryland Technology Center has been a long process with many coming together to help but DHCD has been there from the beginning and due to them we have this beautiful building that is bringing in other organizations and jobs into Indian Head Maryland.”
The Fiscal Year 2025 State Revitalization Program awards were announced on Dec. 18, 2024, awarding a total of $129.5 million to 304 projects in every Maryland county – the largest investment through the program in the Department’s history. $8.2 million was provided to local governments and community development organizations through the Community Legacy Program for projects aimed at strengthening communities through activities such as business retention and attraction, encouraging homeownership and commercial revitalization. The funds supported 45 projects, including the Maryland Technology Center.
