STATE LEADS DELEGATION TO ARAB HEALTH 2017, AWARDS EXPORTMD GRANTS TO COMPANIES

BALTIMORE, MD (January 31, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation of Maryland companies this week to Arab Health 2017, the world’s second largest healthcare exhibition. Held in Dubai, this is the fourth year Commerce has exhibited at the trade show, promoting the state’s healthcare assets as well as a number of small and mid-size companies to a global audience.

“The Arab Health show is truly a unique opportunity to reach the decision makers of many of the world’s largest healthcare companies and let them know that Maryland is open for business,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “With more than 4,000 exhibitors from around the globe, this show is also critical to any Maryland healthcare company looking to market their products and services to new, overseas customers.”

The 10 Maryland companies traveling to Arab Health this year include ClickMedix (Gaithersburg); David Edward Furniture Company (Halethorpe); emocha Mobile Health (Baltimore); Get Real Health (Rockville); Hawkeye Medical (Lanham); IOB Medical (Gaithersburg); LKC Technologies (Gaithersburg); Man & Machine (Landover), Pevco (Middle River); and Smith Associates (Crofton).

Smith Associates, a consulting company specializing in regulatory services for medical manufacturers, jumped at the chance to travel with the state delegation overseas again.

“Since exhibiting at MEDICA last November, we have closed $100,000 in deals,” said Christian Smith, director of business development for Smith Associates. “Joining the delegation for Arab Health 2017 was a no-brainer.”

Commerce recently awarded several ExportMD grants to Maryland companies to help them expand into the global marketplace, including Arab Health attendees emocha Mobile Health and Hawkeye Medical. Other companies that received funding include Allied International (Glen Burnie); Garrett Container Systems (Accident); Murray Corporation (Hunt Valley); and Smartronix (Hollywood).

ExportMD grants are provided to small and mid-size companies on a bi-monthly basis to assist with traveling and marketing costs associated with international trade shows. The next application deadline for the ExportMD program is February 1, 2017 and eligibility requirements can be found on our website.
