2018 Inductees
Norman Augustine, Retired Chair & CEO, Lockheed Martin
Norman Augustine’s career has spanned more than 50 years in aviation, aeronautics, government service and more. He was acting secretary of the Army and has sat on or chaired 36 pro bono committees, investigations and commissions, including the Maryland Economic Development & Business Climate Commission, often simply called the Augustine Commission. He has served on 17 boards of directors and trustees, six advisory boards to federal departments, and the President’s Council of Advisors on Science & Technology. He has received the National Medal of Technology and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Distinguished Public Service Award, and is a five-time recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal.
Harriet Dopkin, President, The Classic Catering People
Harriet Dopkin started cooking at age 8, and studied the culinary arts in the United States and Japan. In 1991, she joined the company her parents founded. where she is now president and co-owner of the business. She guides Classic Catering staff in combining passion for food and hospitality with a commitment to the environment, education, and community service. The Classic Catering People supports young people’s health through education, sponsorships, career days, classes, and scholarships to Stratford University’s Baltimore campus. Under Dopkin’s leadership, the company sponsors the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai’s Race for Our Kids, the Journey Home program to minimize homelessness in Baltimore, the National Aquariaum, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Our Daily Bread, St. Vincent’s Villa and more. Dopkin serves on the executive committee for the United Way of Central Maryland’s Women’s Leadership Council-Tocqueville Society, and on the host committee for the Johns Hopkins Medicine annual women’s health conference, A Woman’s Journey.
Michael Middleton, Chair, Community Bank of the Chesapeake
Michael Middleton became president and CEO of Community Bank of the Chesapeake in 1979, and board chair in 1986. A trustee emeritus and former chair of the College of Southern Maryland, he introduced dual enrollment of CSM students with the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Middleton also served as director and chairman of the Maryland Bankers Association Board of Directors, where he initiated the Council of Professional Women in Banking and Finance. Among other service, he was director of the FEderal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Baltimore Branch. He has received numerous honors and citations for individual and organizational service, including the Business Philanthropy Award from the Archdiocese of Baltimore in partnership with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and Baltimore Business Journal. The Maryland Bankers Association honored him with its Champion for Women Award.
