The University of Louisville (UofL) is seeking an accomplished, visionary, and transformational leader to serve as the next Executive Vice President for Research & Innovation (EVPRI). Reporting to President Kim Schatzel, the EVPRI works collaboratively with the Executive Vice President and University Provost and the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs in aligning research with UofL’s overall academic mission as a Carnegie R1, community engaged university. As one of only 84 universities in the US to earn this recognition, UofL impacts lives in the areas of student success and research and innovation, while their dynamic connection with the local and global communities provides unparalleled opportunities for student and citizens both.

Spreading across three campuses, UofL is a state-supported research university that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). UofL awards bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, doctoral, and first-professional degrees (DMD, JD, MD, and PhD) through 12 colleges and schools. The EVPRI is responsible for developing institutional research policies and procedures, coordinating, and providing oversight of research, scholarship, and creative activity at UofL, and serving in a key leadership role in defining and meeting the emerging research opportunities of the future. In their role, the EVPRI will lead the university in achieving the goals of its research and economic development agenda including: promoting interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research; integrating research and education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; ensuring the integrity of research processes and policies; stewarding the special physical and computational infrastructure necessary for research leadership, establishing collaborative research partnerships between the university and key stakeholders at the local, regional, national, and international levels; participating in federal and state policy and programs regarding research and economic development; and engaging a broad range of individuals in research, scholarly, or creative activity that strengthen the university’s research enterprise.

The successful candidate will possess national distinction as a scholar, research/practitioner, and educator with the accomplishments expected for appointment as a tenured full professor at UofL. The EVPRI must also exhibit substantial administrative leadership experience at a research university or comparable setting.
