Alex McCoy
lex began his economic development career in 2003, near his hometown in South Georgia. Prior to joining Garrett County’s economic development team in April 2015, Alex had served as the chief economic development official in three rural communities in Georgia and Florida.
Alex attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where he received a B.B.A. in both Economics and Business Administration in 2002, and later his M.B.A in 2005. Alex completed the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute in 2009, earned the International Economic Development Council’s Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) status in 2012, and earned the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Institute for Organization Management (IOM) certification in 2016. In 2012, Alex was named the inaugural Young Professional of the Year by the Florida Economic Development Council in part for his work to create a leadership and economic development training course for North Florida, which was adopted by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida State University.
Some of Alex’s duties include: working with existing and potential new businesses seeking to expand or locate within Garrett County, implementing the Department’s program of work, developing and marketing the community’s business assets, overseeing local incentive programs, assisting with workforce development, crafting economic development related policies, and advising on legislative agendas.
In his free-time, Alex enjoys spending time with his family, college football, golf, and smoking barbeque on weekends.
