Members’ Corner: Renee M. Winsky
Name, Title, Organization
Renee M. Winsky, President & CEO, Leadership Maryland
Explain your role within your organization
I participated in Leadership Maryland in 2005. I volunteered to serve and eventually became a board member. In 2013, our founding President & CEO Nancy Minieri announced her retirement. I threw my name in the hat and was the lucky one to get the job. My role is to handle the day-to-day operations, serve the board of directors, and grow our membership through participation in the program and expand our statewide powerhouse network of leaders.
What are your thoughts about economic development in Maryland?
Economic development IS Maryland. It touches and transforms lives, as MEDA’s tagline indicates.
Where do you think economic development fits in the non-profit community?
There are so many terrific leaders in economic development throughout our state, many of whom have participated in Leadership Maryland. We are proud of the cross-section of membership we share with MEDA. We are stronger together.
If you could wave a magic wand, what would you want to work with MEDA on to move Maryland forward?
I enjoy my role as Co-Chair with Danny Thompson of the MEDA Membership Committee. We need to continue to provide benefits to Maryland’s economic development professionals…current members and future members.
Do you have a memorable MEDA moment you would like to share?
Of course….it’s our annual MEDA/Leadership Maryland member photo-op on the steps at the Hyatt Cambridge at the Annual Conference!
What is one thing you have been impacted by at a MEDA conference or event?
The genuine nature of MEDA’s members to share best practices and support the economic development profession.
