Greg Derwart, Acting Director, Harford County Office of Economic Development
2. Explain your background in economic development:
Greg Derwart was appointed Deputy Director of Economic Development for Harford County in December 2022 by County Executive Bob Cassilly and is currently serving as Acting Director. He has over 20 years of senior-level leadership experience in the private, nonprofit, and government sectors.
Prior to joining Harford County, Mr. Derwart served as Managing Director of Administration and Customer Experience for the Maryland Department of Commerce, and Deputy Commissioner for the Maryland Insurance Administration. Previously he was also Chief Operating Officer for the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.
3. Please include any personal background information that you’d like to share (Alma mater, Military Service, hobbies, etc):
A Harford County native, Mr. Derwart is active in several community and professional organizations, including as the Immediate Past President of the Al Cesky Scholarship Fund. He was a 2011 recipient of the Maryland Daily Record’s VIP List Successful by 40 Award, was named by the Chesapeake Human Resources Foundation as a 2011 Fellow, and was awarded the SmartCEO Executive Management Award in 2013. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, a master’s degree from the University of Baltimore, is a Certified Life Coach, and published a book on goal planning in 2021.
