Comcast Business Expands High-Performance Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Network Across Montgomery County
Investment will bring high-capacity network services to businesses extending from Germantown to Takoma Park
Bethesda, Maryland – October 26, 2016 – Comcast Business today announced a multi-million dollar expansion of its fiber-based network across Montgomery County, Maryland. Capable of delivering up to 100 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) of network capacity, these high-performance Ethernet services will help more than 5,800 local businesses, government agencies and hospitals stay competitive in this rapidly changing economy.
The investment will provide businesses with high-performance Ethernet, Internet and advanced voice solutions in areas of economic growth, including the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District, the Interstate 270/Life Sciences and IT Corridor running through West Rockville, West Gaithersburg and Germantown as well as the downtown areas of Bethesda, Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Rockville.
“From biotechnology companies to technology firms, hospitals and hotels, Montgomery County is fortunate to have some of the most exceptional companies and talent within the nation,” said Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett. “These leading organizations depend on access to the latest technologies and services to help them continue staying at the cutting edge of their respective fields. We applaud Comcast for making such an important investment in keeping our community at the forefront of innovation.”
This Ethernet build-out will provide businesses with access to a comprehensive portfolio of multi-Gigabit Ethernet options that will help meet the day-to-day demands of organizations requiring large amounts of bandwidth, looking to link multiple sites or branch locations or planning to connect their offices to a third-party data center.
“As the largest technology trade association in the state of Maryland, we provide our members with resources that help them reach their full potential as vital participants in their communities,” said Marty Rosendale, senior executive advisor, Tech Council of Maryland. “Having access to fiber-based Ethernet services from Comcast Business will be tremendously helpful for these organizations by letting them take advantage of superior speeds and network performance so they can do their cutting-edge biomedical and technology research even better and more quickly than before.”
All of Comcast Business’ multi-Gigabit Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that serves 20 of the nation’s 25 largest markets and spans 149,000 miles across 39 states and the District of Columbia. Comcast was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).
“Network performance, reliability and scalability are important for nearly all types of businesses, but those organizations operating in the high-tech and biomedical industries are even more dependent on having fast and secure access to their data,” said Byron Cantrall, regional vice president for Comcast Business. “We’ve invested heavily in building an infrastructure that meets the high-speed, high-capacity needs of business, technology, healthcare and education customers across Maryland, and we look forward to continuing to launch new and innovative services that exceed their expectations well into the future.”
