Members’ Corner: Brittney Jackson

Name, Title, Organization:

Brittney Jackson, Marketing Communications Specialist, TEDCO

What are your key priorities within your current position?

My key priorities include managing calendars, supporting department projects, data-entry, drafting event briefings and talking points for speaking engagements, tracking sponsored events throughout Maryland, logging inventory and providing swag for events, among other responsibilities.

Does one particular project spark your excitement? If so, describe it below.

Since I started, I’ve been particularly excited about TEDCO’s Entrepreneur Expo! Working behind the scenes to pull together such a large event that fosters new connections and opportunities feels extremely meaningful. Promoting this event and finding unique marketing approaches has been enjoyable but also challenging, as it pushes me to use my skills and creativity to new limits.

What professional pressures keep you up at night?

I would say my capacity and willingness to grow. I’m eager to advance in my career, but sometimes I get too comfortable and miss out on experiences that could help me grow. Reflecting at night, I often remind myself of steps I could take to better myself and open doors to new opportunities. With the fast-paced nature of work, slowing down to plan my next steps can be a challenge.

If you could wave a magic wand, what would you want to work with MEDA on to move Maryland forward?

I’d love to work with MEDA on identifying underserved or overlooked areas with abundant innovative opportunities. Ensuring we cover all regions and support areas that lack resources or recognition to bring their offerings to market is something I find to be extremely important. I believe that everyone deserves an equal chance to contribute to Maryland’s economic growth for the betterment of all.

Please include any personal background information that you’d like to share (Alma mater, Military Service, hobbies, etc):

Outside of work I love to travel, surf, game, and volunteer. I played on my university’s Esports team and was part of the fundraising chair for the surf club. I am working on honing my surfing skills to hopefully go pro one day, and I plan on volunteering abroad to establish new connections through helping communities in need!
